Request for 10+ years exception for credit
 Geography – guest Dr. Ron Mitchelson
o Request denied
o Students are typically not granted extensions beyond 10 years (only 2 exceptions have been
made for severe heath issues as compassionate exceptions)
o Decision to grant an exception in this case would set a precedent and would be unfair to
students informally advised in the past not to make this request
o Deadlines deter students from extended periods of study

Biology – Dr. Terry West
o Credit doesn’t elapse until the beginning of the fall semester
o Motion to complete all degree requirements prior to the beginning of the fall 2011 semester
o Approved
5.
Request for excess non-degree credit
 Elementary Education – Dr. Terry Atkinson
o Student not properly advised
o Approved

Concentration
 Approved
 Committee recommendation for Dr. Ravi Paul becoming a member of GCC approved
7.
Pending Department of Education regulation on repetition of course work and financial aid eligibility –
Rose Allen
 Department of Education may postpone implementation for 3 years
 Julie Poorman, Rita Reaves, and Rose Allen proposed a regulation stipulating students would no
longer be eligible for federal financial aid on a third repetition of a course
o Regulation could have a significant impact on thesis, dissertation, seminar courses etc.
o Units may want to renumber courses at the same level in a different sequence (this does
not require any content revisions to the Catalog)
o Units may wish to increase the number of course offering by changing course numbers
(this requires a memo and a presentation to the GCC but not a course proposal)
o Units may wish to create a new course at the same level with no content change (this
does not require a course proposal)
 Dr. Gemperline agreed all proposed options would be appropriate depending on the
circumstances of the program
