Whereas, on April 25, 2014, the Ithaca College Student Government
Association’s Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion held a “town hall” style meeting
to discuss the issue of microaggressions as they related to the problems currently
existing at Ithaca College,
Whereas, during this “town hall” meeting, students were given the
opportunity to present examples of microaggressions they witnessed and or
committed,
Whereas, a majority of the stories shared came from students within the
School of Health Sciences and Human Performance,
Whereas, the Interim Provost and Vice President of Educational Affairs and
former Health Sciences and Human Performance Dean, Linda Petrosino deferred
addressing the pressing issue and situation until the Fall Semester of 2014,
Whereas, because Linda Petrosino is now the Interim Provost and Vice
President of Educational Affairs with Interim Dean of the School of Health Sciences
and Human Performance, John Sigg having been promoted from Associate Dean of
Health Sciences and Human Performance,
It is resolved that, the Ithaca College Student Government Association
formally recommends that the administrators, faculty, and staff, in conjunction with
Interim Provost, Linda Petrosino and Dean of the School of Health Sciences and
Human Performance, John Sigg address and combat the growing concerns and issues
brought forth by students regarding microaggressions occurring on campus and any
Ithaca College associated events off-campus, while also remaining completely
transparent with all students of Ithaca College as to what their plan of action will be
moving forward.
