MINUTES OF LAMC A.S.O.
Meeting date: November 5, 2012
Call to order:
A meeting of the Associated Student Organization was held at Los Angeles Mission College, Sylmar, CA, November
5, 2012, in the ASO Conference Room. The meeting convened at 1:40pm

Approval and Adoption of Agenda:
Randy Gamez: Motion to approve the Agenda for the November 5, 2012 meeting.
Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes:
Micahel Cortez: Motion to approve minutes as amended with for Oct. 29th.

Reports:
-President: No report.
-Vice President: ASO Movie Night was last Thursday & went very well. Planning on doing it again around Christmas
time. Was voting delegate in the SSCCC this weekend. Region 7 did get many motions passed & learned a lot.
Wants to have all ASO council members to have their own business cards.
-Treasurer: Best SSCCC he has ever attended & helped fight for Child Development centers across California.
Attended Day of the Dead event from MECha & STEM program event & both went successfully.
-Executive Administrator: No report.
-Parliamentarian: During SSCCC he learned a lot & got very motivated. Learned how to run smooth meetings from
other parliamentarians.
-Technology: Attended SSCCC also & felt as though he grew & did not feel intimidated by other senators who
attended. Learned how to delegate properly. Went to a break out session with Randy while there. Attended Tech.
Committee meeting last Wednesday and requests to add Furniture in Campus Center Lobby is updated, but the
technology is not.
-Community: Went to MECha meeting & went very well.
-Administrator: No report.
-Historian: Had a Day of the Dead event last Thursday through MECha & was an amazing experience.

-Advisor: Last week had a mock accreditation & is preparing for it. ASO is important to be a voice for the students &
everyone can attend College Council meetings which are the first Thursday of every month.
Committee Reports:
-ASO Unity Luncheon: Will be this Friday & will send out a mass email to remind everyone.
-ASO Teacher Appreciation: Still trying to work on gathering teachers to highlight.
-Deferred Action Workshop: Currently in contact with Jorge Resentes & has a list of students who are interested to
come to the training session.
-Holiday Toy Drive: Michael Griggs & Doleatha Young met today & began to plan the stages of creating fliers. Will
finalize what they want on flier by next week.

New Business:
-New Charter School: Mr. Crossley was supposed to email us all a letter from Eugene Hernandez, not sure if we
can support this issue since it is a community issue & not a student/LAMC issue.
Michael Cortez: Motion to postpone this item indefinitely.
Motion carried.
-STEM Program: Should create a Student Oversight Committee to make sure that the money is only being used for
student services & nothing more. Would like to have full attention to what exactly STEM program is doing with money
& every decision they make.
Committee will consist with chairman, Michael Griggs, co-chair, Carlos Lara & with Kimberly Calito & Esteban
Hernandez.
-Meet the Mayoral Candidate: Need help to promote this event. Will be held Nov. 14th from 7pm-8pm in the LAMC
Campus Center. Aiming to have an actual mayoral debate on campus around February & really wants to make this
event huge, so please promote!
Old Business:
-ASO Newsletter: Do not need to discuss anything.
-Update ASO Plaque: Did not have a chance to investigate so should post pone this for discussion & decisions next
week.
-Constitutional Amendments: Randy Gamez: Motion to approve the amended constitution.
Motion carried.
Esteban Hernandez: Motion to reconsider item.
Motion fails.
Announcements:
Michael Griggs: The Veteran Administration is having a ceremony to honor veterans from 10-11 tomorrow in the main
quad.
Joe Ramirez: Achieving a Dream coaches are here & need 4-5 ASO members to attend a lunch at 12pm.
Lilly Cabrera: The Dolores Huerta institute is having an event from 1-4pm on Thursday for leadership. Will email info
out.
