1. Meeting was called to order by Co-Chair L. Milke at 12:10 p.m.
2. Review/approved the minutes of November and December meeting
3. College Mid-year Budget Reduction Plan - Karen discussed our current budget. The District
could be facing cash flow problems in March 09. Jan and Feb cash payments from the State
may be postponed until July. We are hoping any mid-year reduction will not be too harsh. We
are currently projecting a $1.1 M deficit, however, we expect our unfunded growth will cover
almost $1 million in the deficit repayment and 2008 child care write off. The District is
expected to be assessed $1.7 M penalty missing FT to PT faculty ratio requirements.
4. Update on 2009/10 Op Plan Process - We are currently working on Fall 09 Galleys, planning
on not cutting too many classes as we are doing for the Winter and Spring 09. We need to
attempt to maximize WSCH per FTE, for more efficiency. We also need to look at how we
schedule classes, times and the assignment of faculty to teach classes. We need to generate
enough FTES to meet our growth target, both funded & unfunded. However, we must work
hard to make sure we do not incur additional costs to generate unfunded FTES. The Op plan
process worksheet will be sent to the Vice Presidents who will send out to the respective units
by Jan 20th.
5. Math Center Funding Options – Debby Wong presented a report on the Title V Math lab and
indicated the costs of institutionalizing the program. After a lengthy discussion, it was
decided that VP Alma Johnson-Hawkins will coordinate a meeting between those involved in
running the Math Lab and Math Center in an attempt to develop a workable cohesive plan. VP
Johnson-Hawkins will report back to B&P at the next scheduled meeting (Feb 5th)
Meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
Next meeting 02-05-09.
