Disability Support Setting Goals and Making Plans According to Your IEP IEP Overview • An IEP’s purpose is to: – – • • Set reasonable learning goals for students State the services that the school district will provide for the students A team of people develop an IEP, including a regular education teacher, special education teacher, school psychologist, parents of the student, and the student. A student’s IEP must be reviewed at least once a year to determine whether the goals are being met or need to be revised. What is in an IEP? Present Levels of Functioning include information on how you are currently doing in school and how your disability affects your performance in class. Annual Goals describe what you are expected to do or learn in a 12-month period based on your present levels of functioning. More About IEPs Accommodations and Modifications describe the modifications and assessment options that will best meet your needs in order to show your progress toward meeting your goals. Transition Goals and Activities include the planning sections for life after high school. It sets goals for how you will be prepared for adult living including employment, daily living skills, vocational training, or post-secondary education. Summary of Performance • It includes recommendations about ways to help you meet your goals after high school. • It is completed during your final year of high school. • The purpose is to provide important information to people who will help you after high school.
