Connie Frey Spurlock: Connecting Students to the Campus Space through Sustainable Education Evidence abounds that Universities across the nation are failing to create life-long learners in our students. Students too often are not meaningfully engaged, and rarely develop a sense of connection to the University space while they are on campus, let alone once they graduate. The principles of sustainable education offer an answer to those problems. Sustainable education involves a radical paradigm shift – one that challenges the current paradigm of “compete and consume.” Sustainable education, for example, embraces respect, trust, ownership, problemsolving skills, systems thinking, egalitarianism, and democracy. This presentation will focus on principles, techniques, and research on sustainable education.
