ANNUAL UNDERGRADUATE EXHIBITION DEPARTMENT OF ART & DESIGN PROSPECTUS DATE: December 7, 2010 TO: All Faculty and Undergraduate Students FROM: Department of Art & Design Exhibitions Committee SUBJECT: Annual Undergraduate Student Art Exhibition February 1 – February 17, 2011 The Annual Undergraduate Exhibition is scheduled to open in the New Wagner Art Gallery on Tuesday, February 1st at 5:00 in the afternoon. The exhibition is open to all undergraduate art students who have been enrolled in SIUE art classes during the past year. ENTRIES: Each eligible student may enter a maximum of five (5) works. These works may be from any of the studio areas of: painting, printmaking, drawing, metalsmithing, sculpture, ceramics, glass, textile arts, photography, design, graphic design or art education studio. As many as three works may be submitted from one area, but the total number of works submitted by one student may not exceed five (5). All works should be properly prepared for exhibition. All work must have been completed while attending SIUE. Two-dimensional pieces or pieces intended for wall hanging must be framed (glazed if appropriate) and equipped with screw eyes and braided picture wire. Free-standing sculpture must be capable of standing in an upright position firmly. Glass and ceramic objects must be capable of being presented on a level surface. Special exhibiting needs should be noted on the entry forms. If accepted, special needs should also be communicated to the Exhibition Coordinator. ENTRY FORMS: Entry forms will be available at the Art Office in the Art and Design Building and in Alumni Hall, Room 3119. Art office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. There are two (2) parts to each entry form. Both parts must be completely filled out by the student and have the instructor's signature of approval to be eligible. If the student does not indicate a dollar price for his/her art work for insurance, the work cannot be properly insured. The papers marked "A" and "B" must be attached to each entry prior to judging (please cut along dotted line and attach both). DROP-OFF OF WORKS: Studio art classes will be canceled on Friday, January 28th due to the jurying of the artwork. You must take your works to the designated areas by Friday, 9:00 a.m. DO NOT use Art Department pedestals for the jurying process; instead you must use the designated table surfaces in your studio area. JUDGING: Judging will take place in the designated areas beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 28th. All works must be properly labeled and ready for hanging or display. Students will not be allowed in the studios during judging, and studio classes will be canceled on Friday, January 28th. Works not accepted in the exhibition may be picked up after 5:00 p.m. on the 28th. DESIGNATED AREAS FOR JUDGING ENTRIES Ceramics Drawing Glassworking Graphic Design/Design Metalsmithing Painting/Watercolor Photography Printmaking Sculpture Textile Arts Room Room Room Room Room Room Room Room Room Room 1114 2105 1302 2101 1113 2108 1121 1117 1115 2104 ACCEPTED WORKS: Students should move their accepted works to the New Wagner Art Gallery on Friday, January 28th beginning promptly at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. (Pieces not delivered to the gallery by 7:00 p.m. will not be shown in this exhibit.) The Exhibition Committee is responsible for installing the show. Any special installation arrangements will be made between the artist and the Exhibitions Committee prior to its 7:00 deadline. It is the responsibility of each student to provide needed equipment, props, etc. to install the work in the Gallery prior to the opening on February 1st and/or scheduled performances with the Exhibitions Committee upon notification of the work having been accepted. At the conclusion of the exhibition, accepted works must be picked up at the Gallery after 12:00 noon on Thursday, February 17th or the Conference Room (Office Suite) between 8:00 and 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 18th by the student (or representative). Work not claimed by 4:30 p.m. will become property of the Department of Art and Design and disposed of as determined by the Department of Art and Design. Insurance on work expires at 12:00 noon, February 19th. REJECTED WORKS: All other works must be picked up in the designated studio judging areas by 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 28th. Each student is responsible for picking up his/her rejected entry or entries. INSURANCE: The accepted entries shall be insured for the duration of the exhibition. Please indicate an insurance value whether the work is for sale or not (N.F.S.). AWARDS: There will be approximately $900 given at the discretion of the juror. The award recipients will be announced at the reception Tuesday, February 1st at 4:00 p.m. Entries will be handled with reasonable care, but the Department of Art & Design, nor the College of Arts and Science, will not assume any responsibility for damage or deterioration before or after the close of the exhibition or during the jurying period. Entrance in the Annual Undergraduate Student Art Exhibition is assumed acceptance of the above conditions.
