Ithaca College Department of Physical Therapy
Internal Transfer Checklist

The six year Clinical Health Studies/Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program is designed for
freshman entry. Opportunities for transfer students do exist but are extremely competitive and
also based on available space. Students may transfer into the program up through the spring of
the junior year. The exact course work required for transfer will depend on the point of entry
into the program. Please refer to the Physical Therapy curriculum for list of required
coursework.
TRANSFER CRITERIA
1. A minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.00, with a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.00 in all
natural science courses. Please note that most successful applicants have a cumulative
and natural science GPA of a 3.20 or higher.
2. Completion of 40 hours of observation, volunteer work, or paid employment in a
physical therapy setting. These hours may be accumulated in multiple facilities.
Documentation of the hours is required by submission of the Clinical Observation Form.
3. Three letters of recommendation, at least one from a physical therapist and one from an
Ithaca College faculty member. References from family members and family friends are
not acceptable. Letters of recommendation should be included with the completed
application form and sent directly to Ryan DeLany in the Academic Advising Center.
4. Official transcripts from colleges and universities attended other than Ithaca College.
There is no need to provide transcripts from Ithaca College.
5. Completion of application. Applications must be typed -- double-spaced. Incomplete
applications cannot be reviewed.
6. For non-native speakers of English, a TOEFL score of 550 or more is required
APPLICATION DEADLINES
- For entrance for Fall semester, the deadline is May 1st.
- For entrance for Spring semester, the deadline is December 1st.

INTERNAL TRANSFER PROCESS
________ 1. Contact Ryan DeLany in the Academic Advising Center at rdelany@ithaca.edu or
(607) 274-1001 to schedule an appointment to review the Department of Physical Therapy
Internal Transfer application materials and requirements.
________ 2. Review Internal Transfer criteria and complete the necessary application
paperwork.
a) Application Form- including personal essay on separate document.
b) Clinical Observation Form.
c) Gather all official transcripts from institutions attended other than Ithaca College.
d) Gather the three letters of recommendation.
________ 3. Once ALL application materials have been completed, schedule a second meeting
with Ryan DeLany for review.
________ 4. Ryan DeLany will submit completed application to the Transfer Coordinator.
All applications must be submitted to Ryan no later than one week before the application
deadline (noted on Page 1 of this checklist).
Applicants are notified of final decisions from the Department of Physical Therapy typically within
six weeks of the application deadline.
