BNCC/DE PAPER P.11e 2006/2007 UWI TERTIARY LEVEL INSTITUTIONS UNIT SUBMISSION TO THE BOARD FOR NON-CAMPUS COUNTRIES AND DISTANCE EDUCATION MEETING OF MAY 07, 2007 IN THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS General Recognition of Qualifications earned at selected TLIs BACKGROUND: At its meeting of May 16, 2003, the Board for Non-Campus Countries & Distance Education received paper BNCC/DE P.13 (Revisiting Articulation and Recognition of Institutions) and “agreed that there should be global acceptance of the standards achieved in those TLIs with which the university had established a working relationship..” The Board endorsed the aim of the TLIU’s recommendations and asked that the amended document be sent to BUS for its approval. The amendments were made. At its meeting of May 23, 2006, BUS P.40A “General Recognition of Qualifications Earned at Selected TLIs” was considered. “The Board was asked to note that the paper had been withdrawn to cross-check the approved institutions listed at the back of the Matriculation Regulations” (Min. 70.7). In response to these queries and suggestions from a subsequent meeting of BUS, the TLI Unit revised Appendix I the UWI Compendium of General Regulations for Students (2003) to incorporate the Associate Degrees in Arts and Sciences for the institutions identified by the above recommendations. BNCC/DE P.5d was submitted at the BNCC/DE meeting of September 25, 2007. The Board suggested additional revisions and agreed that the reformatted paper should be submitted to BUS. Meanwhile, the Assistant Registrar; Marjorie E. Rose-Parks has indicated by letter of April 25, 2007, that BUS has approved the recommendations. (See attached letter).
