Summer Salary Most faculties engaged in sponsored research in COE receive an academic year (9-month) salary paid over 12 months. Faculty frequently incorporate some summer salary into the budget of a research proposal in addition to effort they will be contributing during the academic calendar year (which is either covered by the award or by the institution). Summer grant pay is computed based on a faculty member’s daily rate of pay and is subject to Effort Reporting and a variety of other restrictions and requirements. If Principle Investigators plan to work on or hire other faculty or staff for summer work, they must work closely with the Department Chair and the COE Grant Specialist who is assigned to the project to determine whether the work and the rate of pay are allowable by both the funding agency and the University system.
