STAFF ASSOCIATION MEETING MINUTES

January 13, 2016 – Woods Classroom – 1:00 PM

I. Introductions

As a new, recurring feature to Staff Association meetings, members in attendance introduced themselves.

II. Charles Amerson – did not attend

III. Discussion/Approval of Minutes of the December 9 2015 meeting - Ben Ide moved approval of the minutes as written. Seconded and approved.

IV. University Committee Reports

Budget Advisory – no report, next meeting Feb 4 th

Wellness Committee – no report

Benefits Task Force – no report

Presidential Commission for the Status of Women – no report

V. Staff Association Reports

Web Advisory – no report

Faculty Senate:

At the December meeting there were reports from President Harrison on the progress of faculty compensation adjustments and the changes to the smoking policy. The

Provost spoke about the Student Success Collaborative, a national “big data” based initiative focused on finding out why students drop out and what to do to keep them. UH student advisors will have new tools to use to track student progress and keep them on track for graduating.

VI. Old Business

Update on proposals:

Universal menu for commencement – no update

Expand recognition day:

Valerie Gilleran reports that HRD also wants to meet with the

Provost. Survey still needs to be sent.

Committee volunteers for August Picnic and Thanksgiving Luncheon:

Aubrey McCarthy volunteers to head the Picnic Committee. A list of tasks for both events needs to be sent out.

Fundraising Committee: Val Gilleran, Chair

Looking for great fundraising ideas and people to help with events and opportunities. Suggestions include cookbooks, book sale, NYC/Boston trips.

VII. New Business

The executive board needs a new Secretary. Erica Light moved on to another position outside of the University.

New Meeting location: Always at 1 p.m. - 2nd Wednesday of the month in GSU 335

New Topic: Violence on campus - how to create plan that fits all buildings/departments including epidemics, natural disasters, active shooters, etc.
