 Update from Betsy Robertson – San Marcos Clean Air Initiative
 Bylaws
Start of Meeting:
 Called to order 2:14pm
 Betsy Robertson
o Clean Air Initiative
 Individual U.S. Cities sign on to follow the Kyoto Protocol –
reducing the cities’ emissions to pre 1990 levels
 San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz refuses to sign on
 Suggestion that maybe San Marcos can develop its own plan to
reduce out carbon emissions –
 San Marcos has grown so much that we wouldn’t be able to
bring down our emissions to our pre-1990 level



ICLEI – Organization that helps cities track their emission
levels
Oct 22, 6:00 pm – Workshop at the Activity Center
 Discussion over issues of energy efficiency measures that
the city can take & how to reduce emissions
o Ex. Getting the city managers to buy hybrid
vehicles
Ideas for TX State from Robertson
 More trash cans near and on campus
 Recycling bins underneath University Star stands to catch
used newspapers
 Betsy will send us the number to call for pollution spewing
vehicles
 Bylaws
o E-mail revised bylaws and vote by proxy
 Issues of Attendance
o Brad cannot be here at our meeting time
o Do truant want to remain on the committee?
 If not, can the Department Chair supply another one
o Add attendance clause
 Members must be present certain number of meetings per semester
 Revise bylaws
o Will be typed up by Hayat
o We’re at a standstill without the bylaws
o Will be sent out via e-mail for vote by proxy
 Melody will revise meeting times
o Everyone will send her their available times

o Some members not receiving messages
 Website
o Bylaws should be posted
o Along with the Legislation that formed the committee
