HEC Paris responding to global business needs:
Navigating Sino-EU Opportunities
Jouy-en-Josas, 26 March 2009
HEC Paris and the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University
have created an exciting opportunity for Chinese and European executives to gain
insight, skills, experience and contacts to define strategies for seizing opportunities
between China and Europe: the Navigating Sino-EU opportunities program.
The opening of the Chinese economy and China’s rapid development has profoundly
affected the global business world and the way we do business. Not only has a huge
market become available, but it also allowed multinational corporations to reallocate
strategic resources worldwide and reshape their competitive framework.
China is moving up the value chain, investing in R&D, creating a service industry and
promoting sustainable development. With this increased sophistication, and with the
government’s support, China has engaged in the internationalization of its companies,
both private and state-held, with the view to challenging established market leaders
both within and outside of China. At the same time, Western businesses must be
prepared for China’s internationalization and entry on the world scene, with the view to
identifying the new business opportunities this presents, as new markets, suppliers,
partners and investors become available.
Navigating Opportunities goes beyond the traditional cross-cultural approach to SinoEU relations, teaching participants to recognize new business opportunities and
avenues of growth, to define international growth strategies for their organizations and
to better understand the geopolitical and macro economic foundations that affect
business between Europe and China. Identifying opportunities, defining strategy and
understanding the world in movement, from an economic, business, political and
cultural perspective, have never been more essential in order to create ever
increasing value to clients and to stakeholders.
The program is designed for mid to senior-level executives coming from China and
from Europe with 10 or more years of experience. Each group pursues two 5-day
modules; one in Paris and one in Beijing. During each of these modules, participants
address specific themes of relevance, while also addressing topics of mutual interest
and engaging in meaningful reflection, face-to-face discussion, and inspiring
exchange. Joint social and cultural events further facilitate the creation of a mutual
understanding and personal networks.
According to Bernard Ramanantsoa, Dean of HEC Paris, “This program is a strategic
expansion of HEC’s international portfolio, and demonstrates HEC’s global reach.
HEC Paris is investing in China and putting our expertise to the service of companies
doing business in China and doing business with China.”
Navigating Sino-EU Opportunities is a welcome addition to HEC Paris’s Executive
Education portfolio in China, which already includes the Advanced Management
Program in Fashion & Luxury, offered in partnership with the French Fashion Institute
and Tsinghua University. HEC Paris, via its partnership with two influential State
Commissions, the SASAC and the NDRC, also offers its EMBA program in both
Beijing and Shanghai.
School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University
The School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SEM) was
established in 1984, with Professor Zhu Rongji as its founding dean who later became the fifth
Premier of People’s Republic of China in 1998.
The mission of Tsinghua SEM is to become a world-class school of economics and
management by contributing academic knowledge that fuels the revival of the Chinese
economy and cultivating business leaders for China and the world. The school was awarded
accreditations respectively by AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business) in April, 2007 and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS)
