What I EXPECT from you (on a daily basis):
1.) Be HERE, be ON TIME.
2.) DO your homework and BE PREPARED for class.
3.) Be ATTENTIVE and CONTRIBUTE to the class.
4.) Show RESPECT for your classmates and your school.
***What you WILL NEED in class:
1.) A looseleaf (3-ring) binder or a section in a binder strictly for Biology.
2.) A separate notebook/folder for laboratories
3.) Any current handouts, notes, and/or lab activities.
4.) Pen and/or pencil each and every day.

Class Participation: Includes being prepared for class, being on time, participating in class
discussions, being an attentive and active learner, completion of homework, and…

HOMEWORK/READINGS:
Biology is a work-in-progress discipline and therefore will be treated as such. A very short
quiz on the readings may be given at the START of the class session for which it is due. There
will be NO TRICKS HERE, it is simply to show me that you have done the reading.
LABORATORY:
Lab reports must be handed in on time and must be complete. Due dates will be
assigned. COMPLETED LABS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE END OF THE YEAR EXAM!!!

**How can you be successful in this class?
III. Attendance
 When a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to make-up any missed
work. Get missed work from a friend in class or see me before or after class.
**Missed class work bin**
 If a student is going to be out for an extended time, please call the school at 516539-9430 ext. 5231 and work will be sent home.
 Lateness: Be on Time! Students unexcused late to class will be assigned
detention after the third warning. Additional lateness will be handled as outlined
in the student handbook. Students will lose points off of their class participation
grade for being late. Remember: 3 lates = 1 cut
 Cutting: Be in class! Students who cut class will earn zero credit for work, quiz,
test and participation that day.
 Passes: Passes will be given to one person at a time
o Please do not ask for a pass in the middle of a lesson- wait until we are
changing activities.
If you are unexcused late to class you will not be given a pass.
IV. Classroom Rules:
In addition to the guidelines set forth in the “Student Handbook” the following classroom
rules apply:
 BE ON TIME………......in the classroom and in your seat at the bell
 BE PREPARED……….Have your notebook, paper, and pen
 BE RESPECTFUL…….Use proper language, behavior, and attitude towards
others; no profanity, sit properly in chairs and in the proper assigned seat and be
respectful of any property in the classroom.
 BE ATTENTIVE………No talking, no make-up, no food or drinks, follow
directions first time given.
 Follow School Rules…..Do not bring any non-academic materials (cell phones,
headphones, toys, etc.) to class. They WILL be confiscated.
 If any of the above are not followed then the following will apply:
o Deduction of participation points
o Detention—referrals
o Parent notification

Student and parent/guardian sign and return form to class. Also sign the laboratory safety
procedures form and return.
