Technology Committee Report
There is no institutional responsibility for managing the turnover of computers at
CoM. As a result, the Technology Committee is finalizing a permanent rollover plan,
and recommending that the plan be built into the budget, in order to keep
technology up-to-date.
The benefits which could be realized from such a funded program at CoM include:
 Minimizing the trailing edge of technology and increasing the similarity of
equipment should result in less time and effort spent on configuring and supporting
individual desktops.
 A multi-year purchase or lease agreement which includes a few configurations,
with some upgrade options, would mean less time spent in the aggregate on
individual purchases.
 Departments which might not otherwise be able to budget for equipment would
benefit from the introduction of a subsidized program.
Assumptions

Central money can be found to fund a rollover program (to pay for computers
or provide incentives to participate).
