Ferrie, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools Debra Lidowsky Principal 516/488-9607 FAX: 516/488-9215 Email: Dlidowsky@sewanhaka.k12.ny.us September 2012 Dear Parents and Students: you know it, you’ll be thinking about colleges…or maybe you already are! Did you know that Sewanhaka’s Business Department offers students an opportunity to earn up to 21 college credits? Through the Accelerated College Entry Program (ACE) with Long Island University/C.W. Post, your child has the opportunity to earn six college credits in business and marketing, six college credits in accounting, three college credits in business law, three college credits in computer applications, and three college credits in web page design. In addition, your child will receive a transcript directly from Long Island University. The credits may be transferred to a degree program of your child’s choice. While you are advised to contact a particular college regarding the applicability of the transfer credit, our experience with colleges in general—and local colleges in particular—has been great! The Sewanhaka Central High School District has participated in the ACE Program since 1981. The ACE Program is carefully reviewed by the New York State Education Department. We use approved college texts and materials in presenting these courses. Our course outlines are filed with and reviewed by Long Island University, and our course instructors have been approved as well. Considering the cost of college tuition today, the ACE program provides the opportunity to obtain college credits from an accredited university at a reduced cost. Below, you will find some quotes from students who have taken advantage of this fantastic educational opportunity. Also, attached is more information about our courses plus other key points about our program. Let us help you prepare for tomorrow…today! Enroll in one or all of the collegelevel business courses! If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at (516) 488-9622 or e-mail me at clicastri@sewanhaka.k12.ny.us Sincerely, Christine Licastri, Chairperson Business Department “The day I started C.W. Post, I already had 12 college credits earned from Sewanhaka. A freshmen in college has to spend their entire first semester earning 12 credits. My earned credits from high school gave me a head start in college and now there is a very good possibility that I may be able to graduate early. It is economically beneficial to take as many college credits as possible in high school. Michelle Dindiyal Sewanhaka High School Class of 2010 LIU/C.W. Post, Brookville, NY “Taking the C.W. Post credits in high school helped me a lot in college because I am now ahead of the game, instead of taking the introductory classes in my freshman year, I was able to move on to the intermediate classes. I also gained a lot of elective credits.” Michael Barbagallo Sewanhaka High School Class of 2008 Adelphi University, Garden City, NY “Taking credits in high school was a huge savings. Not only am I ahead in class, I received a scholarship to C.W. Post because I did so well in their classes.” Shivone Persaud Sewanhaka High School Class of 2007 LIU/C.W. Post, Brookville, NY “I took the Principles of Management and Principles of Marketing in my senior year. By doing so, it placed me ahead a semester and saved me a lot of money.” Kelly Cefai Sewanhaka High School Class of 2007 Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY “Taking the college-level business classes and receiving college credits for them was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. Due to receiving these credits I am now almost a whole year ahead of my class and have the chance to graduate early if I choose to.” Michael Zderko Sewanhaka High School Class of 2006 Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA “I had the privilege of taking the C.W. Post college credits but due to financial problems I was unable to receive the credits. Being exposed to the material allowed me to thrive in my college course at D’Youville. Daphne Polynice Sewanhaka High School Class of 2006 D’Youville College, Buffalo, NY "Having the opportunity to take college-level courses while still in high school definitely helped to prepare me for college. I was able to adjust more easily to my college-level workload. My collegelevel Accounting courses at Sewanhaka helped me to realize that I had both interest and ability in the subject. Today, I am an auditor at Deloitte & Touche, LLP - currently rated #1 out of the "Big 4" public accounting firms in New York City." Jeff St. Clair Sewanhaka High School Class of 2002 Manhattan College, Riverdale, NY
