Course Content: BE IT KNOWN THAT WE WILL ATTEMPT TO CAST AS MANY STUDENTS AS POSSIBLE BUT DUE TO SOME CONFLICTS THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THIS BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE. WE WILL DO OUR BEST. Each student will perform in at least one short play. These plays rehearse on an average for 4 weeks (this is up to the director’s discretion) during regular class time. The plays perform three times. First performance is on a Tuesday at 11AM, then Wednesday at 12:45PM and finally, Thursday at 11AM. (Please note: performance times can sometimes conflict with other classes). Immediately after the final performance there will be a short strike. Each student will also help “crew” a second show. Except for stage managers this “crew” assignment is usually 2 to 3 weeks in length. Both “crew” and “acting” assignments must be completed in order to receive a passing grade. The average total commitment for the class is approximately 7 weeks during the semester. Goals: Like the real world of “Theatre” we strive for the student to understand the full range of the theatre art form. Upon completion of this course the student will: Have a greater knowledge and understanding of the “Play Process”. Have a greater understanding of casting, rehearsal and performance for a live audience. Develop a greater understanding and appreciation for the collaboration and teamwork involved in the theatre process. Develop both performance and technical skills. Testing, Grading & Attendance Once assigned to act and crew the student must attend all class sessions within the “Directors” schedule. The student must also complete all required acting or crew assignments. The student must fulfill their assignment within the full collegial guidelines of professionalism and teamwork. Lastly, the student must write a one-page paper about their experience on both sides of the stage.
