The Viking Career Exploration Course Parental Consent and Waiver Form The Senior Project class is a required class that will assist seniors with the completion of their Senior Project. The class is intended for developing, preparing, and organizing the required components of Senior Project. This is a State requirement for graduation from Vale High School. Senior Project is a capstone class where the student demonstrates their readiness and ability to progress on to university, community college, trade school, career training, military, or employment. The class also provides students with the chance to design and implement a complex learning experience that represents their interests, the knowledge and skills they have gained in school and their current visions for their future, education, and work. When a student presents to the Community Panel at the end of the semester, they will be evaluated on their portfolio, presentation, job shadows, and project. Their project will be judged on three components: 1. Rigor – 2. Time Commitment – There is not a minimum number of hours for the project but the student needs to show a commitment and investment of energy and effort 3. Learning curve – Did the student significantly learn from the project? Classwork - Since due dates are given in advance, all work is to be submitted prior to or by the due date. There are no exceptions for late work. Due to the time commitment of their project, job shadows, and other needs of the class, students receive one credit for the semester-long class. Therefore, to minimize the impact on any of their classes, students are expected to complete these tasks outside of the regular school day or to not miss other classes. As a parent/guardian of ________________________________________, a senior at Vale High School, I am aware that my son/daughter/ward must complete and pass the components of the Viking Career Senior Project (physical product, job experiences, portfolio/collection of evidence, classwork and an oral presentation to a panel of adults) in order to graduate this year. If the student has a provisional score on any element of the class, a passing score is not given. The student has 1 week to correct those deficiencies as noted by their review panel and/or instructor. I am also fully aware that my child is responsible for all components and any expenses incurred due to proposed project. Teachers, Advisers, and Mentors are available to assist and provide guidance, but it is not these individuals’ responsibility to ensure your child’s successful completion of course requirements. In addition, my child will maintain a backup copy of all work submitted. The physical product that he/she has chosen is: ________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ My child has permission to complete this project, and I agree to release Vale High School, Vale School District and its employees from all claims arriving from financial obligation incurred, or damage, or injury, or accident suffered while my son/daughter/ward participates in the project that he/she has chosen.
