Infrastructure Canada:
Research
• Support for policy- and decision-making on public
infrastructure and communities through:
– Knowledge generation
– Community building
– Knowledge transfer
Infrastructure Canada:
Water and disasters
• From INFC’s perspective, two aspects of “water-related
disaster” are relevant:
– Natural disaster
– Catastrophic failure of water infrastructure
• INFC addresses these in three ways:
– Direct investment in infrastructure
– Green targets, program categories, and policy
leveraging
– Enhancing research, knowledge and outreach
INFC, Water and Disasters:
INFC direct investments in infrastructure
• Through a “green” investment category for
infrastructure projects that improve the quality of
our environment and contribute to our national
goals of clean air and water
• Through other investments requiring risk
management – ‘plan’ for disasters
INFC, Water and Disasters:
INFC green policies for infrastructure
• Green and transportation infrastructure that
supports sustainability objectives of Government
– Using a climate change lens for current
infrastructure programming
– Exploring new opportunities to reduce emissions
on an urban basis through the New Deal for
Cities and Communities
INFC, Water and Disasters:
INFC research and knowledge-brokering
• Knowledge Generation
• Community Building
• Knowledge Transfer
