Information and Expectations

In addition to your College of Education university supervisor I will supervise you as well (but to a lesser extent). You
receive two of your credit hours (pass/fail) for MATH-579-01 SUPV STU TCHG. I will be observing you, formally and
officially, during the early to middle part of your professional semester at which time I hope to see you at your best.
Expectations for this semester are stated below:
I. Journal: Submit a reflection journal entry once a week on Fridays except for the weeks we meet for
lunch. Submit them in the drop boxes under Lessons on Angel. This does not have to be a lengthy
narrative but be sure to address the following. This component is worth 25%!
 Observations regarding the general classroom/school atmosphere that week;
 Successes (when applicable) you noted;
 Concerns (when applicable) you have;
 Questions (when applicable) you have;
 Suggestions, for yourself, to improve anything that did not go well during the week.
II. Syllabus: Prepare a syllabus for one of the classes you are teaching. You are free to consult with
your cooperating teacher/s, but don’t just copy his/hers. Submit this in the drop box under Lessons on
Angel. This is worth 10%.
III. Formal Visit (you select the class and the day within my schedule’s constraints – see Angel’s Calendar
for updated options). I will be looking for the following (among other items) during my visit:
A. Preparation – 20%
Prior to my arrival, please prepare the following and present them to me before my observation.
 A copy of your lesson plan (your own format) – available when I arrive
 A copy of the textbook if referenced
 A copy of any handout(s) you prepare or use

Implementation of the lesson – 30%
 Mathematical accuracy
 Rapport with the students
 Classroom environment and management
 Lesson design and presentation
C.
Reflection – 25% (this takes the place of your journal entry for that week)
I would like to talk to your cooperating teacher for approximately 15 minutes either prior to or following your
presentation. I would also like to visit with you for 15-30 minutes following my observation. Please make the
necessary arrangements in advance.
