Principles of Supervision

Description
An introduction to supervision principles, best practices, and concepts. Topics discussed include
planning and goal setting; employee training and motivating; team coaching, communicating,
and appraising.
Student Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

Describe the supervisor's role in effective selection, training, and performance
appraisal/management practices.
Explain effective communication strategies and practices of supervisors.
Summarize major motivation theories and techniques, as well as the role of an effective
supervisor in applying these theories/techniques.
Describe the role of an effective supervisor in managing/promoting workplace diversity,
social responsibility, ethical behavior/decision making, and sustainability.
Purpose
This course will provide supervisors and entrepreneurs in large and small for-profits and nonprofits with practical, relevant, knowledge and guidance in the relationship between management
and employees in the workplace.

instructor syllabus for this course, which must also comply with the content specifications outlined in the Troy University Faculty Handbook.
