Monetary theory and theories of fluctuation are reviewed. Policies dealing with economic stabilization are examined. Objectives On completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. Develop an understanding of theories of the macroeconomic environment in an open economy; 2. Discuss the different policy options available to policymakers trying to manage national and international economies; 3. Discuss the characteristics of economic fluctuations and growth; 4. Examine the structure and role of fiscal and monetary policy in stabilizing the international economy; Purpose To provide a comprehensive overview of modern macroeconomics. The course includes both theory and discussions of institutional structures, as well as current policy issues that affect short- or long-term business decisions and operations. Students taking this elective should already have satisfied all of their 2000-level core and specified-elective requirements. Requirement for the Economics major.
