Description This course includes an examination of legal and ethical aspects of contemporary issues associated with the health services administration process. Objectives On completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. Identify key legal issues confronting health service administrators. 2. Describe the integration between legal, moral, ethical, cultural, and social values in which practicing health service practitioners, administrators, patients, and institutions are confronted and used in the decision-making process. 3. Describe the legal process, legal issues related to privacy and confidentiality, informed consent, social welfare, antitrust, medical malpractice, and liability in healthcare administration and propose management strategies to address them. 4. Demonstrate analytical, communication, and research skills appropriate to practicing HSO managers, which are addressed in this course. 5. Assess current research in health services administration to answer research questions about common management problems in HSOs. 6. Evaluate applicable scenario to apply legally and socially oriented health services administration strategies to meet business objectives.
