Third Grade Reading Log
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It’s time to start our reading logs. Reading is an
important part of your child’s everyday life. Research shows
that 20 minutes of reading each day helps with fluency,
comprehension, and other literacy related skills. Each day your
child will bring home his/her reading log folder to complete at
home. Your child is required to read 40 pages each week and
record his/her book(s) of choice and pages read. You will find a
place on the log to initial that your child did their weekly
reading. At the end of each week we will collect reading logs
to make sure students are reading at home and have 40 pages
of reading. Students will be given a test grade at the end of
the nine weeks for his /her participation and weekly
completion. Grade deductions will be made for pages not
completed.
Along with reading logs, your child will also be
required to complete one book project each nine weeks. The
project list sheet has been attached and your child can choose
which book he/she would like to complete their project on.
This is a self paced project. We have listed each nine week
deadline on the book project sheet for you. This project will
count as a reading test grade. By doing these projects, it is our
hope that your child will see the value in reading books for
enjoyment! Please let us know if you have any questions
regarding your child’s reading log.
Third Grade Teachers
Reading Log Project Deadlines
Each nine weeks your child is required to complete a
reading project on a book that they read outside of school.
This is a self paced project and can be turned in anytime
before or on the due date. A test grade will be given for the
completed project. One project is due each nine weeks. Your
child must complete a different project each time and a
summary must accompany the project. Your child must also
be able to share his/her project with the class. Please see the
deadlines below:
First Nine Weeks: Monday, October 19th
Second Nine Weeks: Monday, January 11th
Third Nine Weeks: Friday, March 18th
Fourth Nine Weeks: Friday, May 27th
Reading Log Project Options
Please help your child choose one of the following reading log
projects to complete each nine weeks. Your child should not do
the same project each time. A book summary is due with each
