Call to Order
A monthly meeting of the Missouri State University BSEd Secondary Oversight Committee convened
at 1:30 pm. Chair Dr. Andrew Homburg. A quorum was established.
II.
Approval of Minutes
Motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the November 14, 2014 meeting. Motion
carried.
III.
Announcements & Updates
1. Secondary Ed Update – Rebecca Woodard, Interim Director
a. Any students who took the MoGEA or MEP at other institutions, must resubmit
those scores at MSU.
b. The Missouri Content Assessment is now called MOCA.
2. PEC Update – Diana Piccolo, Chair
a. 2013 By-law changes were passed by Faculty Senate. The second round of
updates are being prepared. If anyone has any revisions that need to be made, let
Dr. Piccolo know. This will be put on the February BSED agenda so that
everyone can look at the BSED part of the revisions.
IV.
Old Business
1. Advisory Board Meeting – There will be funding for ½ day substitutes for the April 10
Advisory Board Meeting. If anyone knows of someone who would be a good addition,
please let Dr. Homburg know.
V.
New Business
1. Regulations for Teacher Preparation Programs Public Comment Deadline February 2
The email attachments were discussed, and a response from the Committee will be sent to Dr.
Hough.
2. Ad-Hoc Committee on Implementing DESE rule changes – Rebecca Woodard
The Committee is meeting January 22, and will have a proposal ready for the next BSED
meeting in February.
3. Advisement – The Committee discussed any possible advisement issues. If anyone has any
advising issues, please let Dr. Woodard know.
4. Taskstream – James Sottile
Taskstream will be used by the incoming students to the EPP* (Teacher Education) starting
this semester (spring 2015). The university will purchase the subscription for the spring and
summer 2015 semesters. These incoming students (spring and summer 2015) will purchase a
renewal subscription to Taskstream in the fall 2015 for $69.00 ($72.95 through the
bookstore). The incoming students (to the EPP) in the fall 2015 will purchase Taskstream for
$91.00 ($95.95 through the bookstore). Dr. Sottile will be meeting with program
coordinators/leaders on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 to ensure he has an accurate list of
students using Taskstream this semester and to confirm that there are not any issues regarding
who should purchase the $69.00 ($72.95 through the bookstore) and $91.00 ($95.95 through
the bookstore) subscription in the fall 2015 semester.
*Students to purchase Taskstream:
o Undergraduates: Anyone entering the Teacher Education program who has not been
admitted to Teacher Education and ELE410 students.
o Post-bac: Same as undergraduates
o Graduate Programs: Anyone at the beginning of the graduate program, at a point
determined by the program coordinator. All “certifiable” graduate programs will use
Taskstream as determined by the program coordinator. All “non-certifiable”
programs can chose whether or not to require Taskstream for their students.
5. RDG 474/574 – Deanne Camp
Dr. Camp wanted to remind the Committee that if anyone has any input for the curricular
changes, please let her know.
6. TB Test – The TB skin test is now $25 at Taylor Health Center.

Mandate of the BSED-Secondary Education Oversight Committee: The BSED-Secondary Education
Oversight Committee shall monitor the common elements of the BSED-Secondary Education program. The
committee shall have responsibility for initiating program changes within common elements of the program
and reporting those recommended changes to the PEC [Profession Education Committee]. Every
department/school having a BSED-Secondary Education program shall select a representative from their fulltime PEU faculty. The School of Teacher Education shall select two representatives from their full-time PEU
faculty who have responsibility for core courses in the BSED-Secondary Education program. The Director of
Secondary Education, Head of the PEU or his/her designee, the Director of Certification and Compliance, a
representative from both the Education Field Experience office and the Professional Education Advisement
office shall serve as non-voting, ex officio members of this committee. At the March session, the chair-elect
from the previous year shall assume duties as the chair of the BSED committee and a new chair-elect from the
current committee membership shall be elected and assume duties as chair-elect. The chair of the committee
shall be a delegate to PEC. (PEC Bylaws 2010).
