Dear Parents / Guardians, The high school teaching staff would like to welcome you and your student to the Alternative School. We hope to make this a very productive year for all involved. Not only do we want to help students improve in academic skills that they can take back to their home schools, but also improve in behavior skills that will help them throughout their lives. If at any time you have questions concerning what we are doing in class, please do not hesitate to call or email us. Each student will receive a class syllabus or pacing guide which includes our school numbers and email addresses. These are also listed on our school web pages along with the syllabus for each class. Because our classes are individualized, many of our students use computer assisted learning programs. Students may work on these lessons at home or at the library, so they do not get behind in their assignments. However, we just ask that students do NOT TAKE PRETESTS AND CHAPTER TESTS AT HOME. Students may take quizzes at home. If a student is assigned book work in a class, then that student is assigned a personal book, and these STUDENTS MAY TAKE THESE BOOKS HOME WITH THEM. Our students are enrolled in courses for either Initial Credit or Credit Recovery. Initial Credit means the student is taking the course for the first time and must complete all assignments, have a passing average, and accumulate a minimum of 120 seat hours to earn credit. Credit Recovery (CR) students are taking the course after previously failing to earn a passing score. Credit Recovery students have an option to take pretests and test out of certain assignments, move through the course as quickly as they can, earn a passing average, and recover the credit. Whether your student is enrolled in GED course work, planning on going back to a home school, or planning to graduate this year, we want to make 2015-16 the most successful year possible for that student. Again, we look forward to working with you and your student this year. Please contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you, Ms. Seay – English Mr. Moore – Math Mr. Fraser – History Mr. Skillman – Science
