Behavior Intervention Plan
A Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) should be developed for any
students whose behavior is interfering with his/her academic progress.
Multiple disciplinary actions should be addressed by a BIP to reduce the
occurrence of inappropriate behavior. The BIP must be continually
reviewed and updated as the need arises. Data should be collected to
document the effectiveness (or ineffectiveness) of interventions. If the
behavior being addressed is not improving, then the BIP must be
revised.
The BIP should include positive behavioral interventions, strategies
and supports to address the behavior. Your school psychologist will be
a valuable resource in writing the BIP. The development of a BIP should
be preceded by a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA). If the
information on the FBA is current, it is not necessary to conduct a new
one each time the BIP is updated.
