School heads and teachers may make reference and registration at the website http://tcs.edb.gov.hk Preface school-based professional development programmes in professional sharing and promoting the capacity building among colleagues. Purpose of Booklet (Web Version) Design & Focus of Programmes As a close partner with schools, the Curriculum Development Institute (CDI) has systematically organised a series of Professional Development Programmes (PDPs) on curriculum development for school heads and teachers. The purposes are to help them achieve personal learning goals, gain professional knowledge, develop pedagogical and leadership skills suited to the needs of their students and contexts of their schools. The design of the programmes aims to sustain the full implementation of the “Guide to the Pre-primary Curriculum (2006)” since the 2007/08 school year so as to further enhance the quality of pre-primary education. With reference to the feedback of school heads and teachers collected through various channels, the areas that require greater emphasis for further professional capacity building are thus included. The PDPs to be offered in this school year focus on the following: To enable schools to plan and co-ordinate the professional development of teachers at the school level for the 2013/14 school year, CDI has prepared this Booklet (Web Version) on Professional Development Programmes for Heads and Teachers of Pre-primary Institutions. The details are also available at the website: http://www.edb.gov.hk/cd/pdp/kg. The programme information on the web will be revised or updated in response to changing needs and circumstances. Based on the changes in the education arena, schools may have already identified school-based capacity building needs for their teachers. We hope that schools could make full use of these courses organised by CDI in raising the awareness and knowledge of different topics among the participating teachers. Upon the return to their schools, they may integrate what they learnt with their i) Enhancing teachers’ understanding and mastery of integrated curriculum planning, implementation and evaluation (e.g. strengthening management, leadership and planning to sustain curriculum development; enhancing the curriculum interface between kindergarten and primary); and ii) Deepening learning and teaching strategies, especially using play as an effective learning and teaching strategy, enhancing understanding of the issue of children development and catering for learner diversities, nurturing of generic skills, enhancing assessment literacy and promoting home-school co-operation. i Organisation of Booklet (Web Version) Feedback PDPs in this Booklet (Web Version) are presented in two categories: “(A) Curriculum Management, Leadership and Planning” and “(B) Sustaining Curriculum and Assessment Reform”, which include a variety of programmes on different curriculum emphases, teaching and learning strategies for various curriculum areas and CDI would take into consideration of feedback from school heads and teachers on courses delivered this year and continue to design appropriate programmes to meet the needs in the coming years. All views and suggestions from school heads and teachers are welcome and please send them to: courses for specific groups of school personnel (e.g. school heads, middle managers, new teachers and parents). Each programme is indicated in its title whether it is a “new”, “re-run” (programme content identical or with minor adaptations) or “refreshed” (programme content with more than 50% updates) item. School heads, teachers and other members of the staff may quickly identify programmes that may interest them through browsing the first three Kindergarten and Primary Section Curriculum Development Institute Education Bureau 13/F Wu Chung House 213 Queen’s Road East Wan Chai, Hong Kong columns of the tables which indicate the theme, the target group and the title of the programmes. or e-mail to: scdokpkg@edb.gov.hk Teachers’ professional development cannot be accomplished merely through self-learning, but also with the professional development opportunities offered by the programmes, which are desirably complemented by doing in real classroom and school settings, professional discourse, collaboration and sharing among teachers.
