WOW Game Title: Bowling Over Content Area: Math TEKS Focus: Addition/Subtraction Physical Education Unit: Throwing, Catching Grade: Kinder Resource: PE Central, www.pecentral.org Equipment/Materials: 40 cones to designate bowling lanes, 6 bowling pins (empty water bottles, Pringle cans) per lane (48) and 1 bowling ball (or any type of rolling ball) per lane (8), clipboard, and 1 pencil per student, bowling worksheet (provided). Set Up: Divide the students into groups of three. Two students should stand behind the pins (1 pin setter, 1 ball return), while the other student (bowler) stands at the beginning of the lane. Activity: After a student rolls the ball one time, he/she shades in the number of boxes based on the number of pins knocked down. One student from behind the pins sets the pins back up; the other student returns the ball to the bowler. The bowler rolls a second time and records the results. The student then totals the score and completes the two questions. The bowler replaces the pin setter, the pin setter replaces the ball return and the ball return replaces the bowler. Rotation continues until all students have completed the worksheet. Variations: Increase the number of pins; you will need to change the number of boxes on the worksheet. Have students write a number sentence reflecting the two rolls. Have students state if the pins rolled in roll #1 was >, <, or equal roll #2. Review Questions: Skill focus: Why is bowling a lifetime activity? Academic focus: Add the number of pins you knocked down the first time to the second time and tell me the answer.
