Course Schedule

Course Description: This course will focus more on the practical part of CALL. Students
already have a basic idea of CALL from the previous course ENG 211.The course will focus
on developing students skills and improving their level in using technology in the English
classroom. Students will increase their use of computer applications and internet to find and
design their own interactive language learning activities, blogs and websites. Students will be
able to use more advanced authoring program to devise their online materials and they will be
able to evaluate and adapt authentic materials from the internet to the specific needs of their
classes. Students will be encouraged to use web-based materials and technology in general to
design materials and activities to teach different language skills.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 211 Computer Assisted Language Learning I.

Course Objective(s): by the end of this course, students will be able:
1. Train students to evaluate the optimal use of suitable media for the appropriate
teaching/learning needs and environment.
2. Equip students with necessary skills to author educational software, online projects
and educational websites.
3. Prepare students to keep up with the ongoing development of instructional
technology through forums and educational communities.
4. Evaluate online language resources.
5. Design websites and blogs for the purpose of language teaching and learning.
6. Use web 2.0 tools and integrate it in the teaching and learning process of the English
language.
7. Use the smart board and other interactive instruments in the teaching of English
language.
8. Design interactive lessons using different authoring applications and software such
as the smart notebook, hot potato.. etc.

Prepare students to keep up with the ongoing development of instructional

Course Requirements:



A folder for class materials that you bring to every class.
A working G-mail Account.
Knowledge of Computer and Internet basics.
Grading Policy:
Assignments: There will be regular assignments during the semester. After each class
students will be asked to apply the tools they have learned and upload the assignment to
their blog. Instructions for the assignments will be available on the Internet. Late
assignments will not be accepted.
Participation: Participation is an integral part of the course. Students may learn answers
to questions they have by participating in all discussions and class activities.
Quizzes: There will be 2 (two) quizzes during the semester, one before the midterm exam
and one after it.
Final Project: in week three, the topic of blogs will be covered. Students will be asked to
design a blog using blogger.com. All homework and weekly assignments will be uploaded
to this blog. Students will link their blog to Google Plus and provide a link to the teacher to
check their progress. The blog will be evaluated before the finals week.
Examinations: There will be 1 midterm exam during the semester. The date and time of
the exam will be decided later.

Attendance: In order to be successful in this course it is necessary to attend each class. In the
event of an absence it is the student’s responsibility to get any notes or assignments missed. If

you are absent on a day when an assignment is due, the assignment may be e-mailed to the
instructor unless other arrangements have been made ahead of time.
Academic Ethics: It is expected that all students will follow guidelines in the University
student handbook. Plagiarism (cheating) is a serious offense. It does the student a disservice
to copy or allow others to copy from her. If a student is suspected of cheating the instructor
will give a grade of 0 (zero) for that assignment. There will be no exceptions.
Assistance: If you find difficulty with the course you may contact me anytime via e-mail or
during office hours.
