Do you know this Rhyme?
Jack and Jill went up the hill,
To fetch a pail of water;
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after.
Then up Jack got and home did trot,
As fast as he could caper.
They put him to bed and plaster’d his head
With vinegar and brown paper.
Teacher:
Teach them the rhyme. Let the children pretend to walk
uphill and downhill.
Ask why uphill is more difficult than downhill.
Here is a marvellous opportunity to explain about gravity.
Refer to water cycle.
Ask the learners to name a few reasons why the well was on
the hill.
Does it have have something to do with the water table that
follows the shape of the soil surface?
Does it make it easier to see when children are near the
well?
Does it make it easier for the water carriers to run downhill
with the full pails of water?
