MONROE COMMUNITY COLLEGE FACILITIES DEPARTMENT SUMMER NEWSLETTER – 2004 For a few years there, we thought we might never see a relatively “slow” summer. Although our business in Facilities never really slows, this summer does seem to promise a little less hectic pace for both you and us. Never fear; however, we’ll still manage to get in your way some this summer as further described below: A. ADDITIONAL FLYNN CENTER PARKING LOT: Another new parking lot will be constructed east of the Flynn Center, between Lot M and the Campus Center loop. This new area will contain approximately 75 parking spaces. B. COGEN PLANT: The front of the campus will be restored early in the summer. The electric generators will be made operational to provide us with all our own electricity except for RG&E backup. C. CONCRETE AND BRICK REPAIRS: Deteriorating building facades will undergo repair again starting this summer and proceeding through the fall. Most notable of these will be the replacement and repair to stairwells on the courtyard side of Building 7. D. BUILDING 10 RESTROOM RENNOVATIONS: Two restrooms in Building 10 (10-195C & 195D) are scheduled for a complete top to bottom renovation. This is part of an ongoing plan to refurbish and modernize our older restrooms. Each year a selection is made using criteria such as volume of use, present state, and cost to refurbish. These high-profile restrooms in Building 10 will undergo a complete demolition and top to bottom rebuild including higher ceilings, improved lighting, new wall and floor tile, new partitions, commodes, sinks and countertops, as well as replacing all hardware and installing automatic devices such as flushers and faucets. This project will result in lighter, brighter, more pleasant restrooms for college and public users that learn, work, and “play” in our athletic facility. The “before” picture is included. E. MODIFICATION PROJECTS: 1. 2. 3. Brick Lounge Center section conversion to PARC Office. Brick Lounge – new ceiling and lighting in perimeter area. Graduate Certification Office relocation. F. THEATRE STAGE RIGGING: This project will replace the theatre stage rigging, incorporating new improvements to insure safety of stage personnel and performers. This project will require a two-month period during the summer session. G. BUILDING 7 ROOF REPLACEMENT: The Building 7 roof has been giving us fits lately so this project will replace the aging, problematic roof with a new one, similar to Building 1, 5 & 6 which have been completed in recent summers.
