Alternative Breaks Alcohol and Drug Policy Texas Woman’s University must comply with the Federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989. Use or possession of alcoholic beverages at Texas Woman’s University or during events or experiences sponsored by units of Texas Woman’s University by an individual under the age of 21 is prohibited. Failure to comply with this regulation violates state law and the policy governing student conduct and will subject the individual to disciplinary action. All students, faculty, staff, and visitors using university facilities or participants in Texas Woman’s University sanctioned events and/or experiences have a responsibility to abide by all conditions of the university Alcoholic Beverage Policy. Persons found guilty of non-compliance with this policy or the laws of the State of Texas have committed a violation of university rules and regulations and are subject to sanctions commensurate with the offense as outlined in the Student Handbook and Planner and Faculty/Staff handbooks. The AB program recognizes that drug use and alcohol abuse are a contradiction to its understanding of community, and that the use of illegal drugs and alcohol abuse may impair work performance and judgment, endanger colleagues, and cause physical damage. It is the policy of the Texas Woman’s University Alternative Breaks program that all participants, leaders, and advisors will be drug and alcohol-free during the AB trip experience. Violation of this policy will result in termination from the program. The AB staff reserves the right to terminate an individual’s participation in the program due to policy violations or behavior deemed injurious to him/herself or to the group. Behavior deemed to be so disruptive that it threatens individual or group ability to successfully achieve the goals of the program will also result in termination from the program. If terminated from the program, the participant will be required to return home immediately and bear the full financial responsibility for doing so. Termination on the grounds of alcohol or drug policy violations may not be appealed.
