Present: Sally Hurtado, Jan Hitchcock, Michelle Covington, John Palmer, Michael Pinkston,
Sue Thomas
The meeting was opened by Sally Hurtado.
The minutes of January 25, 2012 were approved.
Co-Presidents Report
John had no report.
Sally stated that she discussed the issues about the bank account and statement with Lucy. The
issues are the ned for having a second signing for the checks, the need for Lucy to document the
date of her reports and to include the name of the bank on the reports. Sally reported that she
will meet with Lucy and go to the bank with her on 2/15/12.
Article about the SSU Book (for the statewide Reporter)
The article about the book “SSU Memories and Historical Highlights: 1961-2011” was
reviewed by the committee. A few recommended changes were submitted by Lucy Kortum. The
changes were approved and the article will be submitted to Susan Kashack, who will send the
article for publication in The Reporter. Sue and Jan will see Susan after the meeting and ask her
to send the article about our book for publication in The Reporter.
Internship
Michelle gave a report about the internship job description and referred to the list of tasks from
the SSU written Sub-Committee report on 1/13/12.
Restructuring Program Offerings
Discussion was held about changing the calendar for luncheons, because of the lower number
of those who come to the luncheons. It was decided that there would be no luncheon this Spring,
however a reception could be held in April for new retirees, with invitations sent to ERFA
members, staff and administration. The possible time for the reception would be from 3-5 p.m.
Michelle recommended that a sub-committee should work on this. The committee agreed. The
sub-committee will be Michelle and John. An intern will be be included to provide assistance, if
one is available.
It will be necessary to notify ERFA members about the possible changes in the luncheon
schedule, etc.
Fall Schedule for Luncheons
Discussion was held about plans for the Fall Schedule. A possible seminar was suggested for
September 27, which would focus on Estate Planning. OLLI students and Alumni Association
members would be invited. Sally Hurtado will check with Julie and Michelle Covington about
the idea.
It was recommended that the ERFA luncheon be scheduled for November. A date needs to be
selected. It was recommended that the Provost be asked to be the Speaker.
New members of ERFA would be encouraged to come to the luncheon. John and Sally will
work on planning for the luncheon soon.
Notification of ERFA members
Discussion was held about the need to send a letter to ERFA members in order to notify them
that this Spring and in the Fall (2012) there will be one luncheon, not two during each semester..
Sally will ask the ERFA Statewide office when the retiree list for potential ERFA members
will be available.
Development of letter from SSU-ERFA---for new retirees
An example is the October 25, 2011 letter to “John Kramer”. Michael Pinskston will develop a
new letter and also a thank you letter for joining ERFA.
Report from Michael Pinkston
Michael discussed his role as a representative on the Academic Senate, possibly serving as a
consultant. As an Emeritus member of the Senate, Michael reported that he plans to contact
Emeritus representatives on other campuses to collect information about their roles, etc.
With no further business, the meeting was closed.
