Increasing Parent Involvement in the Urban High School Cheryl White July 2003 This research study discusses the decline of parents as the key players in the education of children and the various types of involvement that parents can offer to their children and the school, and indicates that lack of parent involvement can lead to lack of student achievement. This study also explains the importance of parent involvement, the role of parents in the education arena, and the barriers that cause parent involvement to decrease. Additionally, while the barriers to parent involvement are described, the study also explores and identifies interventions that can improve parent involvement in the urban high school. The study provides information that is obtained via a parent survey that assesses the parents’ level of involvement. The latter part of this research study is composed of findings as they relate to parent involvement and implications to improve parent involvement at an urban high school and factors that may have affected the validity of the study.
