SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR ESSAY #1 Memory and Memoir The journey is just as important as the arrival. (ancient proverb) Recall that you are submitting both the journey (the stages in your writing process) and the arrival (your final draft)! Place your final draft on top (double spaced and in Times New Roman.12). Then, in this order, paper clip the following items under the final draft: 1. BrainstormedlList of possible topics for childhood and family memoir 2. Freewriting (optional/done in class and perhaps some more at home) 3. Planning page (personal notes on purpose, audience, genre, tone, strategy, tentative thesis plus optional outline) 4. Rough draft(s) with editing marks made by you and your peer critics (only one rough draft with revision markings required) 5. Rough draft marked and initialed by an HCCS on-campus tutor or AskOnline critique of your essay. (If you used AskOnline instead of an oncampus tutor, be sure to include a copy of the essay the AskOnline tutor sent back to you.) 6. Self and peer critique page with check marks and names of students in your peer critique group Reminders: 1. Identify any intentional fragments that you have used for stylistic effect. Simply make a note in your margin next to the intentional fragment. Mark int. frag. neatly in handwriting. 2. You must use our free tutoring (either on-campus or AskOnline). If you use the on-line tutor, include your returned essay. If you use an on-campus tutor, ask the tutor to sign your rough draft. 3. Recall that a late essay costs a letter grade (-10 points). The essay is due at the beginning of the class session when the essay is due. I prefer not to take online submissions except in emergencies. 4. Use the manuscript mechanics we discussed in class concerning your margins, course information (double spaced), header (last name and page number), and title (bold and centered). 5. Course information includes your name (first name first), your instructor’s name, the course (English 1301), and the date of submission all double spaced.
