SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR ESSAY #2
Exploration and Exposition
College Admissions Essay
The journey is just as important as the arrival. (ancient proverb)
Recall that you are submitting both the journey (your writing process) and the arrival
(your final draft)!
Place your final draft (typed in Times New Roman , point 12) on top.
Then, under the final draft, in this order, include the following parts of your writing
process:
1. Freewriting and other creating (done in class and perhaps some more at home)
2. Planning page (personal notes on purpose, audience, tone, strategy, and
tentative thesis)
3. Rough draft outline (optional)
4. Rough draft (or rough drafts)
5. Rough draft marked by an HCCS tutor either on-campus or AskOnline
(optional)
6. Self and peer critique guide (with names of your peers at bottom)
Use a paperclip or staple to hold all your submission materials or staple all the materials
together.
Reminders:
1. Identify any intentional fragments that you have used for stylistic effect.
Make a note in your margin next to the intentional fragment. Mark int. frag.
2. I advise taking advantage of our free tutoring (both on-campus and/or
AskOnline). If you use the on-line tutor, include the returned essay. If you use
a campus tutor, ask the tutor to sign hi8s or her name on your rough draft
3. Recall that a late essay costs a letter grade (- 10 points).
4. The essay is due at the beginning of the class session. I prefer not to take online submissions except in emergencies.
5. Use a header and paginate in the top far right of your pages (last name, space,
and page number). If you don’t know how to work the header/footer feature
on your computer, neatly print your last name and page numbers.
6. Type your course information in the upper left corner: double space the
following: (1) your name, first name first, (2) your instructor’s name, (3) the
course, and (4) the date.
