Fall Semester Course Description: Fundamentals of mass production of apparel, focusing on the operation of industrial sewing and pressing equipment; Survey of materials selection and construction techniques used at all price levels of mass produced apparel; introduction to industry seam allowances; Identification of differences between ready-to-wear and couture construction. Equipment orientation and paper practice and changing machine threading / needles. Class 3. Learn about increments of an inch, fabric anatomy, and basic terminology. Class 4. Visit High Fashion Fabrics store for suitable fabric option; the students will have the opportunity to purchase fabric and supplies if they have not done so. Class 6. Serge side seams. Zipper prep and application. Holiday - Spring Break (March 16-22), SCHOOL IS CLOSED Class 17. Sew yoke to bodice pieces, and stitch facing pieces and side seams. Class 18. Fuse interfacing to hem and serge. Complete hem. Class 19. Sew hook and eye and complete dress. Dress due at 12:30PM. Draft pattern for jacket Class 20. Prep fabric for jacket, layout, cutting and markings. Serge side seams and shoulder seams. Sew at side seams and should seams. Fuse interfacing, serge and hem sleeve. Holiday - Good Friday Spring Holiday, School is closed Class 21. Cut and fuse interfacing for collar and facing. Baste collar to Jacket. Sew facing at shoulder seams and sew to jacket. Hem Jacket. Class 22. Sew on snap and button at closure. Class 23. Review four basic parts of the sewing machine, thread machine, change needle properly. Sew a straight line. Class 24. Complete jacket.
