Discussion of continuing the FCPS – Bus Routing problem o Group concluded that after the previous group work and the MPS Phase 2
Report (December 06), most of the research for this specific topic has been exhausted
Discussion of group name o Without argument, the group decided on “The Opt-o-Mizers”
Discussion of a new project idea o Group discussed ideas in the area of hazmat routing and public health issues o It was decided that the project would be an evacuation routing problem, likely based on evacuating Washington, DC after some sort of disaster
(such as a dirty bomb)
Discussed various aspects of disaster planning that could be optimized (focused on evacuation and quarantine)
Preliminary discussion of group roles o Rick was identified as the Problem Formulation lead o Kathryn was identified as the Technical lead o Roles will be formalized further in the following online meeting
Action Items o Write problem statement o Contact Dr. Liu to request sponsorship o Contact Dr. Laskey regarding our current direction o Begin “Research Thread” on Google Group site o Add additional threads on aspects of the project that will need to be developed further in order to write the proposal
