CAS Senate Meeting Minutes Oct. 4, 2013 Friday Present: Faith Mishina, L.A. Gotshalk, Randy Hirokawa, Jean Ippolito, Doug Mikkelson, Chair. Yoshiko Fukushima, Janet Ray. Meeting minutes from last time approved. VCAA Advisory Committee developments. Doug will check with Faculty Congress to see how they are involved in that. Curriculum Proposal deadline and early deadline ideas discussed – suggestions passed on to the CAS Senate CRC to deliberate. Addition to the Tenure and Promotion Guidelines to clarify the equity in decision of early applications or extended probationary time periods. Doug suggests that each Division have its own document for criteria for Tenure and promotion. Remembers that such a document exists for Humanities. Randy says one concern is that there is inconsistency across divisions, but usually publication criteria is higher for social sciences and natural sciences than for Humanities. Doug says the candidate should be able to choose the document that they want to be assessed by. It is much more difficult and time consuming for someone in the Humanities to get published. Natural Sciences, 10 articles. Social Sciences, book manuscripts 5 to 7. Humanities 3 to 5. Teaching is a separate category, but scholarship and service should be in a merged category. For example in Nursing: Teaching and Professional Development.
