What we do in Humanities? Every day in Humanities is a day of beauty. We look at, listen to, and read what different ages and cultures considered beautiful and meaningful. Beginning with the ancient Greeks and ending in modern America, we will march through time. In each of the major time periods we study, we will learn about the culture, government, art, literature, architecture, music, and values of the period. Humanities allows us to make connections throughout time and explore what people have created through the arts. Each student is expected to read the assigned chapters (by the time we have our review day) and take notes. Additionally, we will read three plays from different eras as well as an optional book. Each student is expected to ask questions and contribute to a rich class discussion. Each student is expected to write a variety of papers during the year, some personal, some creative, and some factual. Essays will be a part of every test. Each student will make the decision to take the course at level one or level two. Three additional independent, ambitious projects are required of the level one student. Two types of projects are offered: a creative project with background research and research paper. These will be explained more fully later.
