World Without Genocide is a human rights organization headquartered at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul,
MN. We educate to raise awareness about past and current conflicts and advocate at local, state, and national levels for policies and legislation to protect innocent people, prevent genocide, prosecute perpetrators, and remember those whose lives have been affected by genocide. Each summer, World Without Genocide hosts a Summer Institute for High School and College Students to explore critical human rights issues and to support young peoples’ leadership and advocacy skill development. The 2016 Institute,
Women and Genocide, will explore the many roles that women have in genocides as victims, rescuers, perpetrators, and prosecutors. Students will participate in critical thinking and reflection activities, learn from experts and survivors, and build the skills to become human rights leaders. The Institute will be held August 9-11, 10:00 am – 9:00 pm at Mitchell
Hamline School of Law, 875 Summit Avenue, St. Paul, Minnesota.
The internship is
15-20 hours per week, June 1-August 15, on a flexible schedule EXCEPT August 8-11, which are required full days plus evenings of August 9-11.
Unpaid
Interested students may arrange college internship or course credit in relevant disciplines
Responsibilities:
Help organize and prepare curriculum content and communicate with guest speakers
Work with community partners to arrange program support
Publicize the Institute through communication with local media outlets and electronic media
Provide assistance at events and throughout the Institute
Assist with office administration and organization as needed
Perform other duties as needed
Required Qualifications:
B.A. (or currently in process) in any relevant field including history, political science, global studies or another related field
Available August 9-11, 2016 to attend the Summer Institute for High School and College Students
Ability to work closely with diverse individuals and organizations
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Effective time management and organization skills
Clear and effective written and spoken communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills, flexibility, and ability to work well independently
Commitment to human rights
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in an office environment with basic administrative support
Ability to work independently and with self-motivation
Positive outlook and high energy
