Abstract: Students in environmental studies at Northern Arizona University are required to have
a minimum of a one semester internship experience. This project intends to provide an internship
opportunity for an undergraduate student majoring in environmental studies. The student will be
involved in two projects:
1) Assisting the Environmental Caucus in developing their Website devoted to “all things
green at Northern Arizona University,” including a focus on the NPS as an NAU partner
2) Gathering case studies about trail design, maintenance, rehabilitation and other
environmental factors related to trails at volcanic National Parks
From this two-pronged internship opportunity, the student will learn to develop Web content and
how to design and maintain Web pages using Dreamweaver. In addition, the student will have
1
the opportunity to work closely with National Park Service resource managers to learn about the
natural and cultural resource issues of trail design and maintenance, which will be presented as
case studies at the “Workshop for Best Practices of Trail Design and Maintenance on Volcanic
Resources.”
