PROJECT TITLE: Archaeological Survey of North Stair-Step, Elk Meadow, Properties Unit, Laguna Tank, Jeep Camp, Dog Patch, and South
Stair Step Prescribed Burn Units, El Malpais National Monument. El Malpais Project Number ELMA 2006 F.
EFFECTIVE DATES: Fieldwork begins on August 21, 2006. Project End Date: September 30, 2007
PROJECT ABSTRACT: The Center for Desert Archaeology will conduct an intensive archaeological inventory (100% coverage) of seven prescribed burn units in El Malpais National Monument. The sites will be documented to NPS and State of New Mexico standards. The survey results will allow EL Malpais to meet its Section 110 obligations for cultural resources identification, assessment, and evaluation and its compliance obligations for undertakings under section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, 1966 as amended.
