Course overview Catalog Description: An introductory course in freehand drawing. Involves the study of space and form through the use of perspective, line and value. (5007055226) Course Learning Outcomes: Define drawing terms. Produce drawings using pencil, charcoal, ink, conte, and marker. Produce drawings using: perspective, value, proportion, space, and shape. Translate 3D objects to a 2D surface. Produce drawings using different techniques: contour, gestural, and linear. Evaluate verbally and in writing his or her own and other drawings. Produce a drawing portfolio focusing on the methods and techniques listed above. Drawing board and 2 bulldog clips At least 18” x 24” Miscellaneous: Blending stump Small chamois Masking tape Workable fixative Pencil sharpener Portfolio Cardboard or other Instructor guidelines and policies Page 2 of 6 Attendance: This course emphasizes the development of basic drawing skills, the ability to work responsibly in a group and the development of critical thinking skills. Participation in class discussions, activities and critiques is essential. Absences: 3 unexcused absences WILL REDUCE YOUR Final LETTER GRADE BY ONE LETTER. Absences in excess of 4 will lower your final letter grade 5 points for each absence Three late arrivals or early departures count as one absence. If you disappear for a long period of time during the class it will count as an early departure. If you stop attending class and do not officially drop you will receive an “F” for the course. I will not drop you. To receive an excused absence you must contact the instructor. This does not guarantee the absence will be excused. Proper documentation must be supplied. If you need to leave class early please inform the instructor at the beginning of class so you don’t miss any information. You may not work on other school work or study for other classes while in this class. If you are not working on the assignment for this class you will be counted as absent Assignments: You will have approximately 10-12 drawings that will be graded. Some will be weighted more than others Make-up Exams: Grades for projects that are turned in late will be lowered by one letter grade with the exception of excused absences. If a grade on a specific project is lower than you would like you may always re-work it and I will re grade it. You have until week 14 of class to accomplish this. Make sure you talk to me concerning specifics that need to be changed or improved on Cell phones: Cell phones must be turned off when you are in the classroom. Phone calls, text messaging, playing games on phones are not allowed. No laptops or recording devices are allowed without specific permission. Collusion: Unauthorized collaboration with another person in preparing written or visual work offered for credit (such as having someone else work on your project). CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE Disruptive behavior during class will not be tolerated I will ask students to leave the classroom immediately if disruptions persist. If a disruption continues, a student can be administratively withdrawal from the course without refund. Use of cell phones in class will be strictly forbidden. Phone must be shut off for the duration of the class period. Guests are not allowed in the class room unless permission is granted by me ahead of time.
