This week in English Class – Quote of the Week (QOW): *2016 Presentations: One of the classroom objectives in our Moore Schools Secondary Language Arts Curriculum is to be able to “present information clearly, concisely, and logically for the appropriate purpose, audience, and task.” I have asked students to share their goals for this year in an oral presentation, lasting only about 30-45 seconds. I feel strongly that students should be encouraged to gain confidence in the area of public speaking, and should be given the opportunities to do so. This will not only help them in the classroom, but in the future with scholarship interviews, job interviews, and more! *Martin Luther King, Jr.: Students will learn more about MLK and his contributions to society through a short biography, and this knowledge applied to a Word Search about King and his life. *Compare & Contrast/Essay Writing: Students will practice gathering information and comparing and contrasting this information with our Dragon Stats Chart based on Cressida Cowell’s book, “How to Train Your Dragon.” *UNRAAVEL: Students will learn and apply Larry Bell’s UNRAAVEL method to reading comprehension. This method helps students to focus on the passage before they even begin reading it. *PreAP Students: Define the 10 vocabulary words from List 2 (see attached), along with the correct spelling for each word. I will read the words aloud once, along with the definition, and students must know the correct word and its spelling. *Oklahoma Writing Project Contest: Students interested in submitting an entry for this year’s Oklahoma Writing Project should have picked up a packet from me last semester or last week. The deadline to email the entry & all correct information. Please email me with questions. Thank you! *Jaguar NEWS: **See Athletic information attached. **Don’t forget to check my website and Class Calendar there to see what is going on each week.
