Tyya becomes interested in buying only the “good stuff,” candy bars and ice cream. Upset with how Tyya is behaving her father tells her to stand in one place. As she follows her father’s directions, people walk by her thinking that she is a real doll for sale. When a customer tries to buy Tyya, she speaks, and scares the customer. Tyya’s dad returns and they go home with all of the groceries. Materials Needed: Calculators Supermarket Ads Comparison Shopping sheet Pencils 1. Have students look through shopping ads and do some comparison shopping using the sheet provided. There are already six items on the sheet, you can fill them in for the students or have them find the prices in the ads. Have students add four more items of their choice. Then they should note brands that were cheaper. 2. Then in the book Tyya had a price tag of $29.95 on her nose. Have the students look through the supermarket ads and find items they could buy up to $29.95 3. Let the students use calculators, tell them they must spend at least $29.00, but not over $29.95. 4.
