Title: Cash Out Purpose: The purpose of this game is to allow students the chance to practice counting change. They may start out as simply as deciding which coins to use. Or they may choose to determine the change themselves. According to which level they’re on, the change is made from $1, $100, or $15,000. Grade level TEKs: Third – Fourth 3.1C Determine the value of a collection of coins and bills 4.1B Use place value to read, write, compare, and order decimals involving tenths and hundredths, including money, using concrete objects and pictorial models Length of time necessary for Game: 20 – 25 minutes, approx. Number of Participants: 1 player Source for Game: http://www.mrnussbaum.com/cashout/index.html Directions Step 1: Determine which level you choose to play (easy ($1), medium ($100), or hard ($15,000)). Step 2: Determine whether you want to play with hints. Step 3: Determine whether you want the computer to tell you how much change is needed. Choosing “no” will cause the student to have to determine the change themselves. Step 4: Begin game. A story problem appears and if you’ve chose the computer to decide the change you count the change back to the customer.
