El Camino College Associated Students Organization Senate Meeting Minutes August 1, 2013 West Conference Room, Activities Center 1:00pm I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 1:05pm by Alejandro Ventura II. Roll Call Voting members of the Senate Present: Alejandro (Alex) Ventura, Nick Awakuni, Faizan Mehmood, Sharda Jones, Elizabeth Salinger, Garett Lopez Absent: Brook Matson (excused), Luis Mendez (unexcused), Ramon Esquivel Gopar (unexcused) Advisers Present: Rebecca Cobb Absent: Breanna von Stein SDO Staff Carolee Vakil-Jessop Visitors Derrick Moon, Stefan Eclund, David Locke, Sarah Rednour, Joy De Guzman, Anjeannette Aguilar, Sean Bonyadlou, Dillan Horton III. Approval of the Minutes There were no minutes to approve as this was the first meeting of the senate this academic year. IV. Approval of the Agenda Alex Ventura announces Item 6.1.8 needed to be removed from the agenda. MOTION: To approved the agenda as amended. Nick Awakuni moved and Sharda Jones seconded. Motion unanimously passed. V. Old Business There was no old business to consider. VI. New Business 6.1 Appointments 6.1.1 Derrick Moon – Vice President MOTION: To appoint Derrick Moon as ASO Vice President. Moved by Nick Awakuni, seconded by Sharda Jones. Motion unanimously passed. Alex Ventura passed the gavel to Derrick Moon to chair the remainder of the meeting. 6.1.2 Stefan Eckund – Director of Academic Affairs 6.1.3 David Locke – Director of Finance 6.1.4 Sarah Rednour – Director of Human Resources 6.1.5 Joy De Guzman – Senator of Behavioral and Social Sciences 6.1.6 Anjeannette Aguilar – Senator of Humanities 6.1.7 Sean Bonyadlou – Senator of Natural Sciences MOTION: To appoint Stefan Eckund, David Locke, Sarah Rednour, Joy De Guzman, Anjeannette Aguilar and Sean Bonyadlou to the positions as listed. Moved by Alex Ventura, seconded by Nick Awakuni. Motion unanimously passed. 6.2 Finance Items 6.2.1 2013-2014 ASO Budget Approval The budget was passed out to the senate for review. MOTION: To approve the 2013-2014 ASO Budget as presented (see attachment 1). Moved by Alex Ventura, seconded by Anjeannette Aguilar. Motion unanimously passed. 6.2.2 ASO Retreat The purpose of the retreat was discussed. The dates for the retreat (August 16-17, 2013) were announced. MOTION: To approve up to $2200.00 from ASO Leadership Training Account (71-55001-00-836190-7670) for expenses related to ASO/ICC Leadership Training Retreat (August 16-17, 2013). Moved by Sharda Jones, seconded by Alex Ventura. Motion unanimously passed. 6.2.3 Relocation of ASO Savings The opportunity for the ASO reserve funds to earn more interest by moving the funds to the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) was discussed. Currently Chase Bank is paying 0.15% interest on the ASO CD and LACOE is paying 0.64% interest. MOTION: To approve transferring the ASO savings CD from Chase Bank to Los Angeles County Office of Education for potential increased interest earnings. Moved by Nick Awakuni, seconded by Elizabeth Salinger. Motion unanimously passed. VII. Reports 7.1 ASO Member Reports There were no member reports presented. 7.2 ICC Reports There were no ICC reports presented. 7.3 AGS Reports There were no AGS reports presented 7.4 Committee Reports 7.5 7.4.1 Activities Committee 7.4.2 Fundraising Committee 7.4.3 Policy Committee 7.4.4 Public Relations Committee 7.4.5 Sustainability Committee No committee reports were presented. Derrick Moon and Alex Ventura explained the function of the committees and that any interested members of senate should email Alex to be considered for the position of chairperson of a committee.
