Child Development 32 – Disabilities in the Developing Child Units: 3 Lecture: 3 hours Faculty Load: 20% Recommended Preparation: eligibility for English A Credit, degree applicable; Transfer CSU In this course students will study childhood disabilities, the effects of these conditions on the child’s development, and the overall impact on the family system. Topics will include typical and atypical development in the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains as well as the recognition, treatment, and care for children with disabling conditions. Students will also explore the role and responsibilities of the classroom special education assistant and the inhome respite care provider. Note: This course is the same as Nursing 116. Nursing 118 – Respite Care for Children and Adolescents Units: 3 Lecture: 3 hours Faculty Load: 20% Recommended Preparation: eligibility for English A Credit, not degree applicable This course introduces the student to the role and responsibilities involved in providing in-home respite care for the disabled child. Topics will include personal safety, community resources, legal parameters, ethical considerations, nutrition, physical positioning, activities, and procedures for home visits.
